This year, high school students joined the Olympiad for the first time. They dealt with cases that were relevant for adolescents, ranging from organising a party to protecting themselves from fraud and being used as a money mule.

The task that the schoolchildren were the best at was Hosting a Party Wisely where they planned an event, factored in possible losses, and allocated the budget correctly. The share of Olympiad participants that coped with the task amounted to 64%. Nearly a half of the participants (49%) developed an efficient strategy for constructing eco-friendly facilities to generate maximum profit in the simulation game Green City.

The block of tasks called Financial Maze was the hardest one. It represented a platformer game where the participants applied in practice the basic financial concepts, such as money, economy, earnings. Most schoolchildren found the task Fraudsters difficult as well. Only 45% of all participants avoided falling into the hands of scammers.

‘Children are not excited about simply answering questions – gamification is needed to spark their interest. They want to solve issues they may face in real life,’ said Mikhail Mamuta, Head of the Service for Consumer Protection and Financial Inclusion of the Bank of Russia. ‘This is why we developed real-life cases for them using the algorithms of popular games, such as procedural generation, where a participant has to overcome obstacles and make choices as the circumstances of the game change. The children had an opportunity to polish up their financial skills, including in an artificial stress situation.’

The Olympiad was held on the education platform UCHi.ru from 4 March through 3 April 2025. Schoolchildren all over Russia tried to solve its tasks. The Rostov Region accounted for the majority of the participants. The other top five territories were the Kemerovo, Volgograd, and Moscow Regions and the Republic of Tatarstan.

The Olympiad was organised by the Bank of Russia, the National Priorities autonomous non-profit organisation, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, and the education platform in line with the goals and objectives of the national project Efficient and Competitive Economy. The event was supported by the Russian public and state children and youth organisation Movement of the First.
