On 12 June 1875, Sergei Alexandrovich, the son of Emperor Alexander II, wrote in his diary that he and his brothers played tennis on the lawn of the Alexander Garden in Tsarskoye Selo. Thus, tennis first appeared in Russia one year after it was patented in Great Britain.

Russian tennis players achieved the greatest success during the period of the new Russia, when they repeatedly won the Grand Slam championships, the Olympic Games, the Davis Cup, and the Federation Cup.

The material was provided by All-Russia Public Organization Russian Tennis Federation.
