The All Russia Association of the Blind (VOS) was founded on 8 July 1925 in order to improve the living conditions of people with visual impairments, to render them financial assistance, to provide them cultural and political education, to instruct them in accessible crafts, and to give them the opportunity to use their knowledge of science, technology, and arts.

Over its 100-year history, VOS has acquired rich experience in addressing rehabilitation, business, social, and cultural issues. The organisation is constantly introducing new forms and methods of adaptation and rehabilitation, ensuring equal opportunities for people with visual impairments.

At present, the All Russia Association of the Blind unites over 185,000 people and comprises 81 regional organisations. It is the founder of 156 specialised training and production enterprises located in 68 constituent territories of the Russian Federation, as well as 13 institutions and three health centres.

The material is provided by the All-Russian Society of People with Disabilities ‘The All Russia Association of the Blind Awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour’.
