The voluntary Russian physical training and sports society (RFSO) Lokomotiv is a public association created for promoting physical training and sports among employees of the railway industry, transport and construction sector, metro enterprises, railway educational institutions, and other railway industry-related establishments.

The newspaper Krasny Sport (Red Sports) first mentioned the creation of this sports society on 3 November 1935. The newspaper reported about establishing a unified voluntary sports society for railway employees called Lokomotiv. Already on 5 December 1935, a charter of the new sports society was approved, and 12 January 1936 was declared the official foundation date of the Lokomotiv sports society by order of the People’s Commissar of Railways.

Annually, RFSO Lokomotiv holds at least ten all-Russian competitions and 200 regional competitions across the country from Kaliningrad to Sakhalin with the participation of more than 15,000 athletes – employees of the railway industry and members of their families.

Currently, the Lokomotiv brand includes seven sports clubs, namely the football club Lokomotiv Moscow, hockey club Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, basketball club Lokomotiv Kuban (Krasnodar), men’s volleyball club Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, women’s volleyball club Lokomotiv Kaliningrad Region (Kaliningrad), beach soccer club Lokomotiv Moscow, and rugby club Lokomotiv Penza.
